Fly-fishing can be an exciting hobby to take up, but a new fly-fisherman needs to be well prepared for their fishing trips.  You will need some fly fishing gear and some equipment to have a pleasant fly-fishing experience.  However, as for the gear that you will need your will only need the rod, the reel, the line, and some lure.

As for the rod, you will want to shop for the right rod.  When you go shopping for a rod, you will found out that there are many different lengths and weights of fly-fishing rods.  For the length, you will find usually seven, eight, and nine feet rods.  As for the weight, you will want a 6-7 because they are the most common.  You need to select a rod that best fits you and feels right. For the length, you will know what fits right you because of the way it casts. 

As for the reel, it is recommended for beginners to use a hand crank, but if you think you are up to it, you could purchase a multiple crank. Reels can be difficult to purchase because everyone’s preferences and skill levels are different. When you go to buy a reel, you want a reel that matches the line that you are using. 

To determine your line and reel, you will have to consider the type of fishing you are going to do so that you can have the appropriate amount of support for you catch. Again, you will need to consider your crank action, rather you want to hand crank or have a multiple crank.  It all depends on how much control you feel you have with the type of crank. 

Remember, a multiple crank will bring in your line a lot faster than a single crank. You will also want to consider the arbor of your reel.  The arbor is the center of your reel.  This will be determined once you have chosen a crank. Next, think about a drag system.  The drag system will put a resistance on the line so that that your line is not pulled by the catch too much.  This will depend upon the type of fish that you will be encountering and their aggression levels.  You will also want to look at the quality of the reel.  If you are planning a saltwater fishing trip, you will want to look for a brass metal reel because they are less likely to be come corrode.

As for the line, you will want to choose which line is best for you.  You can choose from colors, tapered, weight forward, floating, sinking, and weighed.  If you are a beginner, you should choose a medium weight line and colored to blend in with the fish’s environment. When it comes to choosing your fly, you will want to consider size, shape, and color.  People have successful with many different flies, to find the fly that will help you catch fish; you will need to do this by trial and error.
